Hi and welcome!

I write stories for very young children. I seem to mostly write about talking animals, though sometimes a person or two manages to sneak in. I am ok with that as long as they have something interesting to say.

My newest book is about Bear and his friend, Smile.
You can read about it here

I have loved children’s books all of my life and have been writing them (and sometimes even drawing the pictures) since I was in college. I guess I believe that children’s books contain - in the simplest way possible - what is best and most important in life.

I grew up in Massachusetts but have lived in New York City my whole adult life. I have always worked with books and children. Once upon a time, I was an early childhood teacher, a bookstore clerk, and a researcher for films about poets. But mostly I have worked as a writer and editor of early childhood classroom materials. In that job, I got to write hundreds of stories for young children. Now that I don’t work as much, I get to write my own stories.

When I am not busy putting words in the mouths of unsuspecting animals, I might be out riding a bike or in the kitchen making “interesting” ice cream. But probably I am still in bed reading a noveI. Being in the middle of a good book helps me to feel more at home in the world (even if I am still in my pajamas). When I write, I try to make it a book that will help children - and maybe the adults who read to them - feel that way too.
